Metal Mouth Braces Hallandale Beach
Many of our patients at Rozman Orthodontics are concerned about how traditional metal braces look and feel. We totally get it, especially for our Hallandale Beach patients who want to get treatment without losing their confidence in social and professional situations.
For decades, metal mouth braces have been the most common type of orthodontic treatment. They still work great for a wide range of dental problems but we know not everyone likes how they look. The phrase “metal mouth” itself shows how self conscious many people feel when they wear traditional braces. A lot of people come to our Hallandale Beach office with this concern. They are looking for orthodontic treatments that fit their lifestyle.
Brackets are attached to each tooth with wires that slowly move the teeth into place. That’s how traditional metal braces work. These braces work great for fixing tough orthodontic problems like extreme crowding, big bite problems and big tooth rotations but they have their own set of problems. When you talk or smile the metal parts are visible which can make you feel bad about yourself during treatment.
We talk to our patients a lot about how metal braces require them to take good care of their teeth. Food can get stuck in the brackets and wires so you need to clean them well to keep your teeth and gums healthy. Also to prevent the braces from getting damaged you should stay away from hard candies, popcorn and sticky foods that can move the brackets or bend the wires.
We also talk to patients about how uncomfortable metal braces can be. Putting them in for the first time and making changes from time to time can be painful for the lips and cheeks. This pain is temporary and can be treated with over the counter pain relievers but it’s a big concern for many who want to get braces.
We do want to stress though that current metal braces have come a long way since they were first made. Today’s brackets are thinner and more comfortable than the old ones. We now have elastic bands in different colors so patients can make their treatment more fun. Some patients especially the younger ones choose to change the colors of their bands to fit holidays, school colors or their own taste. We offer Invisalign as an alternative to standard metal braces for those who want orthodontic treatment but don’t want it to be so obvious. This clear aligner system moves teeth in a way that works for many orthodontic cases and is almost invisible while you wear it. Invisalign aligners can be taken out for eating, brushing and special occasions unlike metal braces. This makes them more flexible and convenient.
You wear a series of clear aligners that are custom made for you throughout Invisalign treatment. These aligners slowly move your teeth into place. You wear each aligner for about 2 weeks before moving on to the next one. The aligners are made of smooth, soft plastic that won’t hurt your mouth like metal brackets and wires do.
We found out that a lot of our adult patients love Invisalign because they can look professional while they’re getting treatment. Most people won’t even notice the aligners when they’re talking to you. That’s why Invisalign is a great option for professionals, parents and anyone who wants to fix their smile without the metal mouth braces that makes it look bad.
We at Rozman Orthodontics believe every patient should have a choice of treatment that fits their individual needs and comfort level. We talk to each patient about all their options including traditional braces and Invisalign so they can make an informed decision about their orthodontic care.
